The main business of the life of Michael Nikolayevich Chernyshevski (1858–1924), N. G. Chernyshevski is younger son, was regular study of personal and creative biography of his father, aspiration to keep and promulgate his literary-philosophical heritage. Michael Nikolayevich issued first collected works of N. G. Chernyshevsk’s. The present publication gives notion of the number of copies and the cost of the edition, and also the difficulties with its sale.

The article represents some features of objects of the historical and cultural heritage in Borisoglebsk district of Tambov губернии in 19th century. Borisoglebsk is the second largest in its social-economic and cultural level city in Voronezh region. It is a real city-reserve, counting more than hundreds of historian-cultural and architectural monuments which saved elements of the decorative interior of 19th century. The architectural outlook of the city has been created on base of the published source books on history and archive materials.

The name of Mitrophan Belaiev, who was a wealthy timber merchant and a maecenas, is not as well-known as those of Tretyakov, Morozov and Mamontov in the modern Russian historiography. But contemporaries regarded their contributions to the development of art comparable. Belaiev established «The Glinka Prizes», founded a publishing house in Leipzig «Belaieff Verlag», held the Chamber-music competitions, provided funding for individual grants to needy musicians.

The publication of the congratulatory verses of a veteran of the Napoleon army Nicolas Savin (1787–1894) for the Saratov governor M.N. Galkin-Vrasky are accompanied with the introduction article, which ascertains that the verses are of a low level of literacy of the former non-commissioned officer and hoaxer.

The article deals with the perception of Russian national character by the French who visited this country in the first quarter of the XIX-th century. The issue is analyzed on the basis the French memoirs. The formation of Frenchmen`s idea of the Russian people is studied in consideration with various factors which influenced the perception. The most characteristic features are marked and their correlation with stereotypes of the previous periods is observed.

The review is devoted to the useful scientific reference book – the biographical dictionary “The Architects of Saratov”, written by B.N. Donetsky and E.K. Maximov. The authors mention the participation of many well-known Russian architects in the history of building of Saratov. Special attention is paid to those masters, who formed the architectural appearance of the city. The authors of the dictionary rediscover the names of the builders of some famous edifices.

In XVIII–XIX centuries before a regional and central authority was a problem of accommodation of armies. The armies were placed in the houses of the citizens. Only a small part was in the special buildings. In 1808 Alexander I has signed the decree about creation in the cities of the state the special «room commissions». To their functions concerned drawing up the lists of the houses the towns people and distribution in them the militaries and officials. In this article, the activity «room commissions» is consider on an example the city Saratov.
