«Great turning point» in nation-building in the North Caucasus

The article considers some aspects of national-state building in the North Caucasus region in 30-s years of the XX century. The author emphasizes that at this stage of the Nations to the full extent become a subject in the policy of the bureaucratic state.

Voivods of Saratov brothers Ivan and Mihail Volinskye (1594-1600)

The article describes the unknown pages of the early history of Saratov. The biographies of some of the voivods and  sources of Saratov this time are discussed in details. First the names of people who visited Saratov soon after it was built are given.

1812 in the works of the Saratov historians

The article includes a historiografic review of works of the Saratov researchers about the war of 1812. Mainly it says about the books published in 1912–2012. Analysing the works by N. F. Hovansky, V. V. Pugachev, N. A.Troitsky, V. P. Totfalushin, V. S. Parsamov, Yu. L. Yepanchin, I. N. Pleshakov etc. the author has come to the conclusion that the works of the Saratov historians of 1812 war have common features: attentive attitude to the sources, wide range of issues regarded, tendency to demythologization of the war history, denial of pseudopatriotic stereotypes.

Folk culture in the cities of Saratov province in the late XVIII - first half of the XIX cc.

The article describes the reasons that determined the significant role of Russian ethnic culture in the urban socio-cultural environment of Saratov province. Its manifestations in various spheres of city life and, in particular, in the look of these cities are based on written sources. For most county-level cities its influence on the cultural process was dominant. In the main city of the province its features were evident in spiritual and ceremonial life of the general population.

Nature management rationalization in Elatomsky estates of the Tambov gentry Davydovs at the end of the XIX – the beginning of the XX century

The paper is devoted to the famous of the Tambov noble family of Davydovs. The author is studied actions for rationalization of manufacture in Elatomsky estates of gentry Davydovs at the end of the XIX – the beginning of the XX century.

The research of family structure of German settlements on the Volga River in the middle of XIX-th century: based on "Gnilushka" colony (Pfeifer)

The article is devoted to the research of family structure of German settlements in the Volga Region in the middle of XIX-th century, based on the analisys of "Gnilushka" colony in the Kamyshin district of Saratov province. Family structure model of the colony is being studied by the enumeration lists from the point of view of demographic analysis and J. Handzhnal's theory of existence of a unique European-type marriage.

The policy of “indigenization” in the autonomous republics of RSFSR during the 1920s (based on the materials of Autonomous Republic of the Volga Germans)

The article highlights the process of “indigenization” as an element of Soviet national policy. The research has been conducted on the example of Autonomous Republic of the Volga Germans. The “indigenization” was an element of Soviet national policy in 1920s, accomplished in all the nation-state formations of the USSR both Union and autonomous. The “indigenization” was supposed to consolidate the position of “titular” nation, but also caused a whole new set of problems in interethnic relations.

The daily life of а Soviet provincial city: changes in a school and vocational education in 1920-1930-ies (by the example of Saratov).

The article is devoted to the problems of school and vocational education in 1920-1930-ies. On the basis of archival material and periodicals the author shows one of serious aspects of a daily life - changes in an education system

Authority and moral state of society in post-war period (1946-1953): regional aspect

The article gives the analysis of moral state of society, increased self-consciousness of the  nation-winner, ideological campaigns and relations between the state and the church in the region, commitment of the party and public administration to former methods of government on the basis of archive documents and local periodicals.
