Cement production in Russia: Stakeholders and effectiveness of regional business at the end of the XIX century

The activities of “Petersburg Company for the production of Glukhoozersky Portland cement and other building materials” between 1879 and 1899, although only a initial period segment in its history, provides a holistic overview of phase that enterprise underwent on their path to becoming a large industrial firm. This study aims to improve and expand knowledge about the capacity and difficulties of industrial company to adapt to market changes and maintain their competitiveness, interregional coherence and organizational flexibility.

V. Ya. Bogucharsky’s activity on the creation of the L. N. Tolstoy Museum in St. Petersburg

The article examines the participation of the pre-revolutionary historian, publicist and public figure V. Ya. Bogucharsky in the creation of the Leo Tolstoy Museum in St. Petersburg. This event was timed to coincide with the eightieth anniversary of the great Russian writer.

Involvement of Garrison Soldiers into Construction Works in Kronstadt and St. Petersburg in the 1710s and 1720s

The article deals with the question of involving soldiers of garrison regiments to build fortifications in St. Petersburg and Kronstadt in the first third of the 18th century. Soldiers were recruited on the island of Kotlin in the 1710s, when large-scale construction works were launched there. The service- men did not perform hard tasks. Their number, compared with the total number of working people at that time was small.
